On this our 64th birthday, we certainly have reasons to celebrate

On this our 64th birthday, we certainly have reasons to celebrate:

1. Security

The security forces around us continue striving to preserve the calm we've enjoyed over these past few years.  In addition we can see and hear the work being done to build the anti-tunnel wall meant to protect us from the threat of tunnels from Gaza.  We're grateful for all the efforts being done, which allows us to focus on our growth.

2. Children And Youth

One hears the sounds of growth all over the kibbutz – in the voices of tiny children playing on the lawns.  Today there are 108 children in Nahal Oz, seven of them having been born in the last year.  Our community of youths includes seven teens from across Israel who came to the kibbutz to join us and who are already enrolled in the 12th grade.

3. Youth Program

Moving to the older ages, participants in the fourth cohort of the Meitarim-Lachish pre-military course arrived to Nahal Oz, excited and filled with motivation.  They will be joined in the upcoming weeks by a third group of participants in the 'Tower & Encampment' program affiliated with the HaShomer HaChadash movement.  Heading the parade of young people is our student community, organized in association with Sapir College and Tozeret Ha'aretz.  This year the community will consist of 21 students who will be actively involved in local goings on.  In these young people, we see signs of the kibbutz's next generation – both newcomers and native born kibbutzniks.

4. New Members

Last year we absorbed seven families in our community who join another 22 families absorbed during the two previous years.  We're happy to see our new families in Nahal Oz and are advancing the process of seeing them become full members of the kibbutz.  Aside from the influx of people, the boom we're experiencing also brings with it new construction:  This Hanukah twelve new homes will be ready for occupancy, followed shortly thereafter by the next phase of construction for families in the process of building their homes as well as for future families.

5. Agriculture And Entrepreneurship

The reality of Nahal Oz has generated welcome opportunities for cooperative relationships in the area of agriculture, specifically field crops and the poultry house.  Our cattle sheds had another very successful year as well.  Members of the community are also developing businesses and initiatives, one of them growing from three to eleven employees in the space of a year.

6. Cultural Activity

Finally, we're happy to say that our tradition of community gatherings and cultural activity is as bustling as ever.  Just in the past few weeks we've seen the entire community traveling to Palmachim beach for a dinner to mark the end of the summer; we held the Nahal Oz March to Be'erot Yitzhak, which has become a tradition; our senior community holds gatherings twice a month—and that's just a small taste.

We wish the entire community of Nahal Oz, wherever they come from, Shana Tova.  May this be a year of valuable activity, development and growth in all areas.

We invite you to contact us, come visit, and send your friends to see our marvelous community.
